Job Description:

Lawrence D. Crocker College Prep is searching for a Special Education Coordinator for the 2019 - 2020 school year. Our special education program adheres to the philosophy that all scholars are entitled to the individualized supports necessary to maximize his/her potential. We empower teachers and scholars to achieve excellence in all aspects of our scholar’s social/emotional/behavioral and academic lives. We work diligently to provide quality education that prepares all scholars to enter and excel in rigorous, post-secondary outcomes. Responsibilities:

Student Services

  • Design, plan and implement a comprehensive Response to Intervention (RtI) program for students and teachers to accomplish/promote:

    • Healthy development

    • Proactively prevent problems

    • Early identification and intervention in emerging problems

    • Secure appropriate treatment and interventions for secure and chronic problems

  • Confer with parents, administrators, teachers and contracted specialists to develop IEP’s designed to promote students’ academic, physical, and social development.

  • Coordinate all SPED services via a combination of in-house capacity and external service providers

  • Execute research-based programs according to best practices

  • Maintain school culture of high behavioral expectations

Management

  • Support and lead professional development and growth of faculty with regard to the RTI program, IEP development, and effective accommodations and services for students with exceptionalities.

  • Maintain compliance on all applicable paperwork.

Transition Services

  • Coordinates transition activities for college, career, and community readiness.

  • Assist with alignment of transition continuum of services at the secondary level.

  • Facilitates referral, application, eligibility process for student and families of adult service providers.

Compliance & Data Management

  • Maintain compliance on all relevant local, state, and federal regulations governing students with exceptionalities.

  • Manage documentation of all student services files

  • Analyze and aggregate data reports from the Special Education Reporting System (SER) and results from multiple sources to drive instruction

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • Certification in special education, or certification eligible*

  • Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Understanding of disability areas related to the act

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations that protect individuals with disabilities in education, employment, and community

  • Experienced: Successful manager of a classroom who emulates the belief that structure and clear expectations are drivers of student success

  • Superb Organization and planning: plans, organizes, and schedules in an efficient and productive manner, implements time-saving and management systems; ability to multi-task/ Works efficiently under deadlines

  • Constant learner: Solicits feedback and implements new ideas in instruction, stays abreast of current research on teaching and learning, enhances professional skills

  • Solutions-Oriented: concentrates on finding ways to solve problems and improve systems

  • High Expectations: An unwavering belief that all students can achieve at high levels

  • Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work well in a team
