Job Description:

Walter L. Cohen High School is searching for English Language Learner (ELL) Teachers for the 2019 - 2020school year. The ELL Teacher will be responsible for instruction in multiple subject areas and grades, ensuring that our students get the support necessary to be successful in their core classes. The goal of this position is to guide English Language Learners toward gaining proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing.. If you are relentless about seeing all students achieve at high levels, this is a chance to work at a school that does whatever it takes to ensure our students are equipped with the academic and social skills needed to "Prep for College" and "Prep for Life."

 

Experience and Skills:

Responsibilities:

  • Provide ELL push in and/or pull out instruction to students in a variety of subject/content areas
  • Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement for students
  • Assist in developing language acquisition support plans (ELL plans) for all ELL students and work with classroom teachers to implement plans
  • Execute research-based programs according to best practices
  • Frequently analyze results from multiple sources to drive instruction
  • Maintain school culture of high behavioral expectations
  • Maintain frequent communication with student families

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required).
  • Teacher Certification or certification eligible (preferred but not required).
  • Fluent in Spanish (preferred but not required).
  • Experience working in urban schools (highly preferred)
  • Solutions-Oriented: concentrates on finding ways to solve problems and improve systems

  • Work ethic: possesses a strong willingness to work hard and long hours to get the job done
