Job Description:

Opportunity:

Walter L. Cohen College Prep is searching for a School Nurse for the 2018-2019 school year. The school nurse will be responsible for ensuring the health of all students attending Walter L. Cohen College Prep. If you are relentless about seeing all students achieve at high levels, this is a chance to work at a school that does whatever it takes to ensure our students are equipped with the academic and social skills needed to 'Prep for College' and 'Prep for Life.'

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and best practices of school health protocols and utilizes expertise in making decisions related to student health.

  • Bills Medicaid accurately and in a timely manner for services provided

  • Conducts and/or coordinates State mandated annual health screenings.

  • Writes and maintains health plans for all students with health conditions. Communicates student needs to supervising teachers and staff, as needed.

  • Creates & implements system to ensure students are compliant with immunization policies.

  • Communicates effectively and maintains strong relationships with students, families, colleagues and health providing organizations

  • Demonstrates genuine interest in the student population and its health needs; works to ensure cooperating agencies provide efficient healthcare to students and families.

  • Utilizes computer-based software to manage student health data.

  • Demonstrates urgency in handling student needs, prioritizes getting students back to class if they are healthy and able to do so.

  • Trains and supervises staff in CPR,medication, and non-complex procedures, to ensure student health needs are met in a safe and accurate way, even when the nurse is not present.

  • Makes decisions related to delegation of health care tasks according to state guidelines

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program (required)

  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree (preferred)

  • Valid Louisiana RN license without any restrictions (required)

  • Two years work experience as a full-time registered nurse (preferred).

  • A minimum of one to three years nursing experience and experience in community health, pediatrics, emergency care and triage, psychiatry, and/or a physician's office (preferred)

  • Active Basic Life Support BLS CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers certification with hands?on training (preferred)

  • CPR Instructor certificate (preferred)

  • Eligible for certification by the Louisiana Department of Education as a School Nurse.
