Job Description:

John W. Hoffman Early Learning Center is searching for a Center Manager  for the current school year. This person will assist the Executive Director with the management of center operations, staff development, and ensuring a loving, kind, rigorous, and joyful culture for children and families. 

Background:

New Orleans College Prep’s (NOCP) mission is to prepare each of our students to enter and excel in a rigorous four-year college or university. Over the past 10 years, NOCP has grown from a single school with a single grade of 100 students, to now operate 4 charter schools spanning grades PK-12, serving over 1,500 students on 4 campuses.

In June 2017, NOCP will expand its existing early learning program at John W. Hoffman, to establish a large, world-class early learning center that meets the needs of a growing, socioeconomically diverse population in New Orleans. The early learning center will serve approximately 228 children aged 0-4 and offer an unparalleled array of enriching, experiential learning experiences for children. 50% of the seats will be funded through Head Start, offered only to low income children, and 50% of the seats will be tuition-based, offered on a sliding scale of tuition rates based on family income. A coalition of charter school organizations will contribute to the operating costs of the center, in return for offering preferential access to employees of their schools, which will also support improved staff retention in our K-12 public schools. With this unique model, we will create a preschool that is truly accessible to all families, regardless of income, and expand early childhood capacity in our city.

Experience and Skills:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management
    • Assist the Executive Director with the management of center operations 
    • Manage the Center's classroom staff to ensure full supervision of children during daily operations
    • Ensure developmentally appropriate curriculum and child assessments are being implemented with fidelity in all classrooms
  • Teacher Development
    • Provide feedback/coaching to staff on the implementation of the Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers & Preschool children as well as Teaching Strategies GOLD
    • Lead classroom staff in regular analysis of data gathered through child observations and guide their usage of such information towards individualized care and/or differentiated instruction
    • Evaluate classroom staff twice a year (minimum) using the NOCP performance rubric
    • Support classroom staff in obtaining and sustaining early childhood teaching certification
    • Assist with pre-service and professional development training sessions for all staff
  • State & Federal Compliance
    • Assist the Executive Director with managing all aspects of federal and state compliance as it pertains to Head Start Performance Standards and Louisiana State Child Care Licensing requirements
    • Ensure the Center is adequately staffed for safety and child development
  • Establish and maintain the following professional certifications/credentials:
    • Inter-rater Reliability in Teaching Strategies GOLD
    • CLASS Observation Certification (Toddler and PreK)
    • Louisiana Pathways Training Certification
    • National Administrator Credential
  • Consistently and professionally communicates with families and staff.
  • Promote our mission within the community and help establish and/or sustain successful community partnerships
  • Represent the Executive Director in her absence/as requested and perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Teacher certification and/or Early Childhood Education, Education, or content related coursework (required)
  • Obtained (or proof that it is in progress) the following credentials:
  • Inter-rater Reliability in Teaching Strategies GOLD
    • CLASS Observation Certification (Toddler and PreK)
    • Louisiana Pathways Training Certification
    • National Administrator Credential
  • Demonstrated understanding of child development and research-based best practices
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an Early Learning facility and/or Head Start/Early Head Start
  • Ability to follow directions and work unsupervised on multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of the population serve (preferred)
  • Attention to detail: does not let important details slip through the cracks; meticulous
  • Tenacious follow-up skills, follows through on commitments

Benefits

We offer a competitive compensation package, including generous retirement contributions and comprehensive health benefits. The salary range for this role is $50,000 - $55,000.
